Unlike the Morgado Old, Alamos features several water hazards and raised greens, meaning that club selection is vital in shooting a good score. The signature 9th hole is a par 3 surrounded by mounds and ominous bunkers that requires precision.
The Pestana Dom Joao II is a 4-star hotel overlooking the sandy Alvor beach with its calm, crystal clear waters. It is only 10 minutes on foot from the town centre, very close to the Alvor river.
Penina was the first golf hotel in the Algarve, and has remained a favourite with UK and Irish golfers since it opened in 1966.
The Magnolia Hotel is surrounded by sun-kissed Algarve coastlines, and is close to 3 superb golf courses at Quinta do Lago.
Step out onto a golden Vilamoura Beach, or enjoy water sports at the nearby marina. There are several golf courses a short drive away, including the Victoria Clube de Golfe, home of the Portugal Masters.
Palmares Golf Course is ranked 26th in the Top 100 Courses in Europe, and it's easy to see why. The course boasts undulated fairways through Atlantic Coast dunes and stunning views of the Ocean.
Monte Rei is the first of two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, opened for play in June 2007.
Vale de Pinta is a well laid out and interesting course.
Built in the grounds of the Penina Hotel, the Penina Championship Golf Course was the first course on the Algarve, opening for play in 1966.
